#10: Secret of Mana

Woot.  The top 10 starts out with a freaking bang.
Secret of Mana was an insanely large part of my childhood.

It was an RPG that featured 8 separate weapons and many magic spells that level up throughout the course of the game.  The twists?

First – The game was a live-action RPG where all of the weapons controlled very differently.  The gloves dealt a ton of fast damage at close range.  The whip dealt a bit of damage to all of the enemies along the path.  Picking a weapon is important but to be truly powerful, you needed to level up everything.  That was much less tedious with the other twist.

Second – Secret of Mana was a 3 player co-op extravaganza. There were 3 different characters with different strengths and weaknesses.  Any co-op game that can last 40 hours is aces in my book.

If you haven’t played it, you can find it on the Wii’s Virtual Console.  Play it now.  If you have played it, you can find it on the Wii’s Virtual Console.  Play it now.
