#17: Burnout 3: Takedown

Freaking Burnout.

I could really put any Burnout after #2 on here.  It became an excellent series.  This was the beginning of EA's turn from the devil of all producers into a solid place for new developers to get some great funding.  (Now, Activision's taken the reigns on the whole "devil thing".)

Burnout 3 is a game that requires split second reactions more than just about any other racing game.  With the oncoming traffic, opponent's cars, and constant obstructions, you'll crash multiple times in an average race.  It's more fun than frustrating.

The twist of your basic Burnout game is that you can fill up your speed boost meter by driving dangerously.  Barely avoiding traffic, driving on the wrong side of the road, drifting, and wrecking opponents will fill up your boost meter.  Using your boost will more than likely cause you to crash, which will have you lose your boost meter.  Then you rinse and repeat.  It's freaking fantastic.

Every race is an adrenaline filled adventure where you form personal rivals with stupid aggresive jerks.  Ok, that's just what I think about them during the race.

Burnout 3 also has a great time waster in its crash mode.  Picture a big intersection.  Now ram an SUV into it and see how much monetary damage you can cause.  Now do it over and over again with a leaderboard.  It's fun, it's simple, and anyone can do it.

I love this series, and they just announced that a new one might be announced soon, I'm stoked.  Soon, I'll get to wreck some stupid jerks.
